SURVIVOR

Your survivor winner this week is Mike Garner, who gets over his propensity to choke and defeats Angel Cruz 9/ to 8/. Garner wins $70 while Cruz picks up $10 for coming in second. Garner decides to spend the bonus $20 on the scratchies, and wins....absolutely nothing. So the Chest stays at $130 with one week to go.

SURVIVOR CHEST

Survivor Chest works this way -

How it gets filled -
Every week, the winner can either take $20 and put it into the pot. Or spend it on $10 New Jersey Scratch-Offs. Whatever is won on the scratch-offs is put into the Survivor Chest ($500 maximum). Anything over $500 is split equally among everyone who went in for the week.

How it gets emptied -
Whoever wins the last week of Survivor wins what's been amassed in the Survivor Chest. The catch - ALL BOWLERS MUST HAVE PLAYED SURVIVOR 8 TIMES DURING THE REGULAR SEASON TO QUALIFY FOR THE SURVIVOR CHEST.
Here are the standings so far...

BASEBALL

This week was a tale of people who did or did not get the job done. In the American League, the only person who got the job done in the AL East was Rich Sojka, who moves from out of the playoffs to the 5th seed and second place in the division. Paul Martinez, Bill Pentz, and Dave Leon all take at least 2 points in the AL West, and all clinch playoff spots, while Mark Newman backs into a play-off spot. Sojka, and Gary Vicente, who has the 5th and final playoff spot, respectively, play each other, while Mike Garner will get in if he beats Mark Newman, and Rob Narducci and Angel Cruz can get in if Garner loses and they sweep - as they play each other.

In the National League, its a bit more simple. Gordon Pepper clinches the top seed in the league playoffs with his win, and he and Brian Hill have clinched playoff spots in the NL East. In the NL West, Rob Navalta and Joe Long are safely in the post-season, and Bruce Walker and Artie Rosalsky can join them if either of them win a point. But if they get swept, and Sean (Fred) Plump sweeps, then Plump is in the playoffs and the person who got swept is gone.

From the financial standpoint, Rick Sojka wins first place and $51, Angel Cruz comes in second (which is good for $20), and Bruce Walker takes the third place, $10 prize.

PLAY-OFF SCENARIOS
AL EAST

MARK NEWMAN - Though you sucked last week, so did the other 2 people chasing you. You're in the playoffs, and you win the AL East if you take 1 point. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - MIKE GARNER

RICK SOJKA - In a MUCH better situation than last week, thanks to Vicente and Garner getting swept. You win the division if you sweep and Newman gets swept. You get into the playoffs if you take 2 points or if the people chasing you suck, but why leave it up to chance? THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - GARY VICENTE

GARY VICENTE - You should be staring at the outside, looking in thanks to your dreadful effort this past week, but thanks to Garner's equaly dreadful effort, you still have the final playoff spot. You also control your own fate - but you need to take three points this week to clinch or hope that Garner and some other people once again drink from the fountain of suck. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - RICH SOJKA

MIKE GARNER - RIght now, you are out of the playoffs thanks to you getting swept by Angel Cruz. But since Sojka and Vicente play each other this week, you still are in control of your own destiny - that's the good news. The bad news? You must take 3 points to secure a playoff spot, and THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - MARK NEWMAN

ROB NARDUCCI - You needed that sweep last week, and although it's going to be tough, it's still possible to get into the playoffs. You need 1. to take at least 3 points from Angel Cruz, 2. Gary Vicente to lose to Rich Sojka, and 3. Mike Garner to lose to Mark Newman. Those 3 scenarios are very possible, so you are still very much alive. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ANGEL CRUZ

ANGEL CRUZ - You are also still alive, but you're in a leakier boat as Narducci, meaning that you need 1. to SWEEP Rob Narducci, 2. Gary Vicente to lose to Rich Sojka, and 3. Mike Garner to GET SWEPT BY Mark Newman. But that's possible too, so you never know...THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ROB NARDUCCI

AL WEST

PAUL MARTINEZ - You're in the playoffs. 2 points gets you the division. A sweep and a loss by Gordon Pepper gives you the Number one seed throughout the playoffs. Life's looking pretty good. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - DAVE LEON

BILL PENTZ - Probably the biggest surprise in the league You're also in the playoffs. You win the division if you win 4 points and Paul Martinez loses to Leon. Life's also looking pretty good. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - PRO WILLIAMS

DAVE LEON - You're also in the playoffs. You win the league with a 4 point sweep of Martinez and Bill Pentz losing a game. Also looking really good in terms of life. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - PAUL MARTINEZ

ROB ACEVEDO - Being out for a few weeks and not getting a sub sealed your fate. Better luck next year. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - CHRIS HICKEY

CHRIS HICKEY - You also lost time due to you being out - but you have also made more $97 so far and you have made a profit this year - so why worry? THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ROB ACEVEDO

PRO WILLIAMS - Also killed by the absent bug. The three of you are a combined 39-93. Ouch. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - BILL PENTZ

NL EAST

GORDON PEPPER - You clinched the division 2 weeks ago, and got the train back on the track this past week. You get the top seed throughout the playoffs with 2 points this week. Sweet. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - DAVE MASUR

BRIAN HILL - You have comes back from the dead to clinch a playoff spot. You can clinch the #3 seed with a 4 point sweep next week. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - FRED CARLO

SEAN (FRED) PLUMP - Simple, yet complicated. You need to sweep your opponent, then hope either Artie Rosalsky or Bruce Walker gets swept. There's always hope...THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - JIM DEMARCO

FRED CARLO - The 2-18 stretch in the middle of the year did you in - but you made $80, so it's not all bad. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - BRIAN HILL

DAVE MASUR - The one consistant thing - you've been inconsistant. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - GORDON PEPPER

JIM DEMARCO - So how was that 2 week trip to Disneyland? THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - SEAN (FRED) PLUMP

NL WEST

ROB NAVALTA - Despite the last 2 weeks, your second half surge has put you in the cat-bird seat. 3 points for you and you clinch your division. Even if you suck, you're still in the playoffs - but you could drop to the 6th spot if you do. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - BRUCE WALKER

JOE LONG - You also benefitted from a late second half surge. You are in the playoffs - you win the division if you take 4 ponts and Navalta falters. Here's the catch - your opponent needs a point to get into the playoffs. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ARTIE ROSALSKY

BRUCE WALKER - You desperately needed - and got - a win last week. You are in ecstacy and agony - 4 points and any lost points from Long gives you the division, but if you get swept, you could be on the outside looking in. You need one point to get into the playoffs - and you better get it, because if you wind up in a tie with Plump for the last play-off spot, you lose. If you wind up tied with Rosalsky, or in a 3-way tie with Plump and Rosalsky, you get in, but do you really want to see it boil down to that? THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ROB NAVALTA

ARTIE ROSALSKY - You didn't do yourself any favors with your horrific performance last week, and although you can win the division, your loss puts you in a non-enviable position. A 4 point sweep, with a 3-1 Bruce Walker split, and the division is yours, BUT, of all of the people involved - you desperately need a point the most. You LOSE ALL Tiebreakers with ANYONE, so win the first game and spare yourself the humiliation of missing the playoffs after a 10.5-1.5 start, OK? THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - JOE LONG

DAVE DELEASA - Mr. Smooth has been very very rough. THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - ANSLEY HOLMES

ANSLEY HOLMES - Well, at least football season will be coming up...THIS WEEK'S OPPONENT - DAVE DELEASA

ACTION

The sob stories continue - remember last week when Dave Deleasa won every second place position? Well Rob Acevedo comes in second place EIGHT TIMES - SEVEN OF THEM AGAINST THE SAME PERSON. OUCH. Angel Cruz is the opponent, and the rich benefactor as he wins 7 brackets for $210. Don't cry for Acevedo, though. He does wind up winning 2 brackets - and that plus the 8 finishes is an even $100 for the night. The one bracket winners were Rich Sojka, Edgar Tanglao, and Mike Papetti - all of them win $30, while Dave Leon takes $15 and Paul Martinez wins $5. For the high game pots, Rich Sojka takes it with a 266 and grabs $80. Mike Pepetti (236) and Rob Acevedo (237) each gets $25 for their scores.
