The positioning and the posturing is over. It all boils down to who is the best team in the final 2 weeks. Team 16 and Help have the inside track to said title, with Team 16 wresting first place back this past week. Help, however, is only 4.5 points away from taking first place right back. 8 points behind Help! is Team 19 and Team 1 - both tied for third place. This week for them is an elimination match-up, as one of them needs to pound on the other for either team to have a shot at catching first - a close split will pretty much eliminate both teams from contention. The same could be said for 5th-8th place. They are still mathematically alive, but need to go 19 or better in order to come within range of pulling the ultimate turnaround. Which teams are in those spots? And where is everyone else? Read on to find out... ![]() ![]() Team 1 wakes up from last weeks debacle and administers a hurting on Why?, as they shoot 143 pins over average and defeat Why for the wood by 224 pins. Jasen Smith goes 231/223/648 series, Frank Lynch Jr goes 234/224/637 series, Phil Grant gets a 229 game and a 604 series, and Donald Fuko adds in scores of 218 and 202 for Team 1. Phil Tilstra shoots a 237 and Jason Plump adds a 205 for Why?, but that doesn't come close to matching Team 1's arsenal and Why falls to 8th place. Team 1 moves into third, and sets up an elimination match next week between themselves and Team 19. The Unit outlasts Who's Next in a hard hitting shoot-out that had both teams combine to shoot 299 pins over average. The Unit, who shot a nice 208 pins over, had David Kelly shoot a 213/212/611 series, Julain Heard shoot a 204 and a 201, Deron Brown go for a 233, and Doug Keller hit a 212. Who's Next earned their 9 points though, as Rob Acevedo shoots a 237/222/642, Angel Cruz makes a 214/211/202/627 series, Gil Acevedo brings in a 205 and Hubert Johnson III tosses in a 202. Who's Next takes the loss, but they stay in 7th place, while The Unit, 43-20 over the last 3 weeks, advance upwards to 6th, setting up their third meeting of the season with The New Generation. Since both teams shot well, I guess the bowling fairy has left Who's Next. I wonder where that fairy is... For the first time in their 3 meetings against each other, the Lunatics get the win. Jared De Santis shoots a 239 game, while Bobby 'McGee' Iovino gets a 3 point sweep. Mike Pepetti (236), Rob Healey (233) and Cosmo DiVincenzo (221) each shoot a 220+, but the other 9 scores on the team are a combined 181 pins under average and 2-7 in Match Point Play. That would be signs of the fairy, but I don't think the fairy has made its residence here either. Cos flips spots with Darlene's Looneys (who are 28-14 over the past 2 weeks) as the Lunatics move to 9th; Cos and Co. go to 10th. I found the fairy! It's hanging out here with RAD Plumbing as they shoot a horrendous 244 PINS UNDER AVERAGE. This includes a 204 by Bob Deleasa and a 202 by Artie Rosalsky, so you can guess how hideous the scores were. How they got 8 points out of this mess is the greater mystery. More on this down below. Joe Long gets a 215 and Troy Barry adds a 196 for Team 4, who is 30-12 over the past 2 weeks but stays in 12th place. RAD plummets to 13th place. Team 20 avenges their loss earlier on in the season to the threes and beats them up. Edgar Tanglao administered most of the beating with a 214 game, a 213 game, and a 619 series, while John Bautista had a 233 game / 604 series beatdown and Robert Navalta clubbed in a 209. Tim Vorhees shot a 200 even, but that's not enough in the arsenal as the threes fall one notch to 14th. Team 20, 47-16 for the past 3 weeks, move up 3 notches to 11th.
Just when Metro Bowl was getting on the right track, they get derailed with a self-inflicted 78 pins under average effort as the Doggies get back on the winning trail. Bob Polesovsky has a 199 game for the Doggies, while Mickey Heitler shoots a team high 256 for Metro Bowl. But Heitler's effort doesn't erase the 66 pin deficit they found themselves in atfter the first game, and they lose the wood (and the game) by 17 pins. The Doggies and Metro Bowl flip positions - the Dogs go to 15th while Metro moves to 16th. IDM snaps out of their 3 week malaise with a convincing win over Team 17. Matt Fox goes 239/204/636 series and a 3 point sweep while Dan Plump tosses in a 218. Matt Watkins shoots a 199 for Team 17, but that doesn't counter the duo of Plump and Fox as Team 17, which continues on their 19.5-64.5 for their past 4 week spiral, falls to 19th. IDM stays in 17th place. In a VERY ugly match-up, both teams shoot a combined 287 pins under average. Are you sure we have to give points to anyone? Yes, we have to? OK. Gil Bonilla shoots a 237 and a 201 for RTMG, but the Hunters get the win because they didn't shoot as badly under average (106 pins under) as RTMG did (181 pins under). The Hunters move up to 18th, while RTMG stays in the basement - though they are 2 points away from getting out of it. Matt Fox, it Doesn't Matter Rich Sojka, Team 16 Team of the Week The Unit Fox wakes himself (and the team) out of its slumber with a 78 pin over average 239/204/636 series and a 3 point sweep, which keyed IDM to the 16-5 win. All Sojka does is go 67 pins over average, including a three points sweep, high scratch game (266) and high scratch series (679) as Team 16 retake first place with a 13-8 triumph. Team-wise, the Unit shoot 208 pins over average with 6 deuces as they survive a high octane battle with Whos Next, 12-9. Sean Plump, Threes Are Wild SUCK JOB Team of the Week RAD Plumbing There were bowlers who shot more under their average, but they all at least took a point. Plump didn't take anything, and he shot 72 pins under average as the Threes go down in flames, 6-15. Some of those worse bowlers you can find in RAD Plumbing, who combined to shoot 244 pins under average, but what's more distressing, the fact that they did that or the fact that they got 8 points out of it? Dishonorable Mention: Gary Vicente, Artie Rosalsky, Alex Devincenzo, Dennis Caruso, Tom Fojitlin., Tom Struss, RTMG, Inc.
