If you listened to your radio in the 60's, and heard the voice of a
beautiful blond balladeer singing "Put a Little Love In Your Heart", you
couldn't help falling in love with Jackie de Shannon. With that song,
and other self penned compostitions like "When You Walk In The Room" and "Needles and Pins" (a hit later on for Brits 'The Searchers) Jackie de Shannon embodied the optimism and innocence of a time in pop music that we'll never see the likes of again. Even today, when you hear those songs, you can't help
but smile ...they're kind of like a little lunch break for your spirit.
Well, Jackie de Shannon is returning to live performance, and a
recording career, and she hasn't lost a step. Not that she's gone away
during the last few years. She's been busy as a songwriter, turning out
hits like 'Bette Davis Eyes" for Kim Carnes, and contributing to albums
for artists like Cher and Marianne Faithful. Its been a long road for
an artist who opened for the Beatles on their American tour (check out
the new Beatles Anthology tome for dressing room photos of her with the
Fabs). Years of experience have only deepened her as a writer and
performer.
Jackie's new album is called "you know me", and critics are calling it
the best work of her career. A couple of years ago Jackie promised us
that when she was ready with new material she would bring her show to
the Bottom Line. And don't you know, she's coming here for two special
evenings. On Saturday, March 3rd, Jackie will be on stage as part of the
first "In Their Own Words" for the new year. We'll be able to hear her not
only perform her songs, but talk about her music with the other
panelists. The following Saturday, March 10th, the entire evening
belongs to Jackie and her band, led by Bottom Line favorite,
guitarist Glen Burtnik. and all her great hits.
We're so pleased to have her, and we know you'll experience an
unforgettable show. So don't wait around...get your tickets and mark
your calendar.
